Wedding Dress Commission for Alyssa Chan

Silk Satin, Silk Lining, Silk Blend Straps, Tulle

One of One

—

When Alyssa commissioned me to create her wedding dress for August 2025, she described her vision as a “simple, classic, no lace, no fuss!, not too tight, not too voluminous, straight silhouette.” She enlightened me to the traditions of her dual heritage: brides in both Chinese and Indian cultures wear red to symbolize love, passion, prosperity, and joy. Upholding this cultural element while seeking a modern direction quickly became our foundation.

‘How can I bring character to something so sleek and simple?’ was a question I pondered often during my initial design process. Then sketching and patternmaking took over. The iconic 90s bias-cut slip dress on our mood board metamorphosed into a straight-cut tailored gown with princess darts. The depth of both plunges blurred the line between suggestion and modesty, as did the subtle back slit. The double straps and the hand dyed, handsewn veil added flare. These choices, along with our bright poppy red and a strong focus on tailoring, accentuated Alyssa in every way.

This commission celebrates the love Aflame between Alyssa and Mark. Congratulations, it’s been an honor!
